Default Event idea

A guy from NEFAS contacted me about learning to fly and that planted the seed for an event idea.

An afternoon fly in, followed by cooking dinner, then invite NEFAS (Northeast Florida Astronmical Society) to setup their telescopes for some family star gazing.

I've been out to Hannah Park a few times and these folks did a great job seting up an observing night at my step daugheters school so I don't think it would be a streatch to get them out there to set up for an evening.

Offer them and their families time on the club trainers with an instructor, maybe setup a few demos or whatever.

I would say that it would be informal the first time, no sanction or advertising other than word of mouth and see how it goes. Maybe charge 10 bucks to fly and split the take with the Astronomy club and sell food to make a few bux for the club.

Thoughts, ideas, or as #5 says, MORE INPUT?!

Night flying, fair point!

I'm sure the camper crowd would dig it.

Great idea! I'm involved with them, they have some very big telescopes. If we can get Art to come, he has one that is probably 12 feet and requires a ladder to view. I'll bring my 8" scope below out with me.

I'd rather see something over the next couple of months since the Winter skies have way more to see and the "seeing" is much better plus there are less mosquitos.

The guy that contacted me about flying is named Wes, apparently he builds his own telescopes.

Yes I agree about the winter sky being more interesting, and bug free.

I would like to see it as most 3 foot mirror (36 inch) telescopes are in huge observatories
