The concept of large or giant scale is generally considered to apply to radio controlled model aircraft with minimum wingspans of eighty (80) inches for monoplanes and sixty (60) inches for multi-wing aircraft. Ducted Fan and Turbine aircraft with one hundred forty (140) inches combined length and width, measured from wing tip to wing tip at the widest point perpendicular to the fuselage and added to the length of the fuselage, excluding any protrusions.

Any plane that is document as 1/4 scale or above is allowed also. Yes, the big bird events are fun and usually exciting.

I'm in, do gliders count?

Motions 09-21-2009 07:42 PM

There are IMAA gliders so I would say yes.

I'm really surprised there's never been a large scale event at JAX. I don't have one but I would make the trip to watch for sure.

The only downside I can see is some folks get nervous with the hill and trees.

The tow plane is 106" and the glider is like 110 I think (2.6m) and my Yak is marketed as a 25 percent.
